I've heard a number of single driver systems, including Voxativ systems and systems using Voxativ drivers, systems using Feastrix field-coil drivers, G.I.P. Open baffle speakers like those really need a lot of space to breathe to really take advantage of their dynamic, expansive sound. Another friend bought the speakers from us and moved up to Oregon and I never heard speakers like those again. That was a special, highly efficient speaker setup that we used with single ended triode and single ended pentode amps.

A buddy of mine and I installed the 8 ohm versions of these drivers into a JE Labs open baffle, and upgraded the single cap crossover to a 3.3uF Siemens EPCOS Polypropylene film in oil cap bypassed with a 0.1uF Russian FT-3 Teflon cap. Unfortunately, the KEF’s are not very efficient with their crossovers.Ī really good vintage coaxial/triaxial driver is the Electro-Voice TRX-12B that uses the same T-35 high frequency driver that some of the Klipsch Heritage series speakers used. They produce the coherent, single point source sound that full range drivers produce, but with more balanced coverage of the frequency spectrum. I’ve always liked the sound of coaxial speakers like the KEF LS50’s and the Tannoy Westminster’s. They work well with with good Class A solid state amplification and good push-pull tube amps.Ī high end full range driver brand from Japan are the Feastrex full range drivers. I really like the Mark Audio Alpair 12P full range drivers.
